Who is George Birman!? George Birman is THE MAN! While he might be less known to all the Pittsburgh Penguins fans he has been working with the organization for 10 years now as a front office employee. He is from Ukraine the homeland of Ruslan Fedotenko. He is married and has a son. Besides being an awesome Russian Jew, in 2006 George had his big break when Geno arrived. Gregory or Gera as Russians would call him became official English interpreter for Evgeni Malkin. However, Gera’s star-hood doesn’t end with just being an interpreter. Tomorrow morning (Tuesday Nov. 24th) at 8:30am he will get his bigger break with hosting “NHL in Russain” show airing on Penguins HD radio. This is going to be an awesome show! I am so very excited! Evgeni Malking is going to be there! Igor Larionov is going to be there with his daughter Alyonka! And of course, Birman is going to host the show joined by Oleg Mejeritski of Sovietsky Sport.
The show is going to be in Russian but just to let you all know how awesome i am. By you all i mean people that don’t speak Russian. Tomorrow, while on my vacation, i am going to try to wake up early to record the “NHL in Russian” show, translate it and post it here. Yes you are very welcome.
TribLive writes further … Birman is the host of “NHL In Russian,” or “NXL Na Russkom” as it will be known to Russians listening at 4:30 p.m. in that country. He’ll have help on the program from Oleg Mejeritski of Sovietsky Sport and Alena “Alyonka” Larionov of Pens TV, but Malkin said Birman is the star attraction. ”He is my good friend, so of course I will say nice things,” Malkin said. “But he is very good on radio. His humor is easy. He makes us feel good, so a lot of hockey players will come.” Malkin was the first, followed by Larionov’s famous father, Russian legend Igor Larionov. Penguins defenseman Sergei Gonchar is slated for the second episode, and Malkin said he would be surprised if the program doesn’t become a favorite of “all the big Russian players.” Even, say, his main rival in Washington, two-time reigning MVP Alex Ovechkin? ”Maybe,” Malkin said, grinning. “Everybody will want to talk with George. He’ll be a big star.”
