Hockey is Life.

Life is Hockey.

The two go hand in hand.

We’ve all heard the statistics about how competitive sports can improve many different areas of our lives. Academic, social, physical, and even personal aspects.

Hockey is a sport full of character. It teaches us about determination and about dedication and strength. It’s built on hope and driven by heart. Perhaps above all it promotes loyalty, teamwork and identity.

2009 has been an incredible year for hockey. Especially if you’re a pens fan.

Operation Malkin Militia A Great Success!

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Regardless of the outcome of the game and sustaining minor casualties Operation Malkin Militia has been proclaimed a great success! Primary operation objectives were to

A. locate and penetrate The Igloo
B. establish militia presence by holding ground and using loud vocals
C. proudly fly Malkin Militia flag for all to see

Here is the Official Report …

Sometime early in the morning on Dec. 26 Malkin Militia boarded Japanese made military vehicle and started making its way through the enemy territory towards the primary objective location.

Approximate travel distance is about 400 miles or 650 kilometers. Official map of Operation Malkin Militia. (classified)

Completing Primary Objective A. while passing through enemy territory turned out more tricky then originally expected.

Malkin Militia encountered many traps, ambushes, and decoys cleverly set up by our foe on the way. In other words locating and penetrating The Igloo was not as easy task. This wasn’t The Igloo …

Neither was this …

Nor this …

Not even one of these two …

We didn’t let our clever enemy bring us down and continued to fight our way to the front lines. At times it seemed like we were flying at the speed of light.

Soon enough we started seeing familiar places and familiar faces. We knew we were getting close.

And then finally we have spotted our Primary Objective A. The Real Igloo … in all its glory and majesty …

On the first day of the battle Malkin Militia sustained minor casualties … two recruit of Malkin Militia could not keep up with the fast pace of the battle and left their blood or maybe ketchup spread all over the battlefield. However, we simply could not abandon our mission and two other high ranking officers of Malkin Militia, although sustained serious injuries over night decided to continue the operation the next day. Mario (all the way right), 4 Canadians, and Malkin Militia sustaining injuries in battle.

Artifacts spotted on the battlefield worth mentioning here …

The next day we had to penetrate The Igloo and we came prepared. High ranking officer AlexL and usbzoso.

Yes we did this all because of you ….

We penetrated The Igloo … established our ground … and proudly flew our flag!

During this heroic battle …

1. At least twice Geno looked up at the flag
2. At least twice Malkin Militia flag was rocking The Igloo Jumbotron
3. Honorable picture of the Malkin Militia flag placed on the official Pittsburgh Penguins website. Here is a screenshot.

For its brave actions and distinguished service Malkin Militia was awarded highest Medal Of Honor …

Thanks to Lisa R. for presenting this Medal Of Honor to the key members of Malkin Militia. Here is the ceremony picture.

Operation Malkin Militia completed successfully! Long Live Geno! LETS GO PENS!!!

Geno Is A Good Student And A Greaaaat Teacher

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

If yall was not watching yesterdays game well then yall is a missin’ out on second best game of the season. First one being the 0.4 Papi Scored game. Just simple fact that Vlad Tretiak was in the building could keep one glued to the TV except the interview part where he was talking about Ovie. For that part you could just go to the kitchen and grab some tea. Besides being one of the greatest goaltenders of all time and playing with the Green Unit aka The Original Russian Five (consisted of Vyacheslav Fetisov and Alexei Kasatonov on defense, Sergei Makarov, Igor Larionov and Vladimir Krutov) he is also a GM for the 2010 Russian Winter Olympic team.

Anyway what kind of effect can Vlad have on Russians?

Fedotenko … 1-0
Gonchar … 1-2
Malkin … 3-0

Score Everybody! Come back soon Vladislav Tretiak!

Quick update before the game today vs Sens … Coach Dan Bylsma said Mark Eaton is going to miss “a week or so” due to an undisclosed injury.

Apparently JStaal has been promoted from “Gronk” to “Warrior”.

I thought it was funny!

Seth, from EmptyNetters thinks “The economy is so tough these days. Even Fleury has to take a second job as a mall Santa”

Tec from psamp thinks Maxime Talbot will take any second job

NYC Penguins Meetup Group Raises $1500 for MLF

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Not everything was that bad yesterday. Despite Penguins loss people from NYC Penguins Meetup still had smiles on their faces at the end of the game in Foley’s Pub. Why?! Thats because we have raised $1500 US Dollars for Mario Lemieux Foundation! Last year we raised $500 dollars and another $500 was donated by Shaun Clancy, owner of Foley’s Pub. This year we raised 3 times as much money with only efforts of people that come to meetup! This is a huge milestone for us in our goal to get Mario Lemieux to come out to NY and visit us at Foley’s one day! As a special thanks MLF agreed to send us his autographed jersey which was raffled last night. Although there were no losers last night as this fund raises was a win-win situation for all the present parties, I would like to extend a big congratulation to Cara and her mom, one of the organizers for the meetup group. Cara, i hope your mom doesn’t read my crappy blog. Thats because Cara’s mom has donated some money and her lucky ticket was picked out of the steel bucket. Cara decided not to tell her mom just yet but will surprise her with the jersey for Christmas. Cara told us that her mom is a HUGE Mario fan so this will be a very special surprise indeed.

Congratulation to us all! Lets Go Pens!!!

Gronk Is Still Sexier Than You!

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Here are the two recent pictures of Jordan Staal that are my favorite. First one was taken on Oct 7th 2009 when Pens suffered 3-0 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes. Here is the first epic picture of the dynamic duo. Jordan Staal who appears to be possessed by dark forces and Evgeni Malkin who appears to be bored out of his mind killing bugs with his stick. Of course Dan Bylsma grilling some steaks on the ice with his eyes.

Its probably no surprise that my second favorite picture comes from yesterdays game where Jordan Staal yet again proving worthy of being nicknamed “Gronk”. As far as i know the nickname was given to Jordan by Colby Armstrong for having superhuman powers.

Pens Vs Devils And Pens Fans Are Number 1 In NHL!

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Whats this crap i am reading all over the net …!?!?! Reminds me of 2009 SCF Game 7 NHL Playoffs. No one is giving Penguins a chance vs Devils tonight!? HAHAHA! Yeah whats that on December 7, 2009, Brodeur recorded his 103rd career shutout in a 3-0 win against the Buffalo Sabres, tying him with Terry Sawchuk for most career shutouts by an NHL goaltender? Old news! Ohh yeah whats that on December 18, 2009, Brodeur played in his 1,030th game, becoming the all time leader in games played for goalies? Yeah Brodeur is old allright! We get the point. Tonight we put his name to a test!  SAWWWW-CHUKKKKK?!

In life new always replaces old … in some related news Marc-Andre Fleury is the NHL’s second star of the week. How is that shoe-shine working out for you MAF? Fleury had a 1.26 GAA and .957 save percentage in three straight victories last week. He is second in the NHL with 21 wins this season and he could surpass the 40-win plateau this season.

He might be second in the NHL for NHL.com but he is NUMBER ONE for ALL OF US! WHY?!

Eastern Conference Standings after tonight!

WHY!?!?! Because Penguins fans are the best in the NHL! I know i said that many times but this is not me saying it anymore check out Forbes. Mark Eaton will not play Monday due to an undisclosed injury. He will be busy drinking spiked eggnog with his family and we don’t blame him. Happy Holidays to you! He will be replaced by Martin Skoula. In 22 games, Skoula recorded  eight points, 3 goals, 5 assists and is a +2.

I can’t believe Patrick Kane is talking shit again. Regarding Olympics Geno said “Pride for Russia is to win gold. Nothing else.” I say best case scenario is Ovie puts a knee on knee on Patrick Kane and takes his lunch money! To me that is Pride for Russia!

Speaking of Geno, Evgeni Malkin is 3rd on the team in PIM. He took two more successive minors Saturday, one without even being on the ice. Malkin’s game is predicated on backchecking and careful stickwork, but he needs to spend more time on the ice and out of the box. Geno don’t make me curse out in Russian again, its not a pretty sight!

Unreal game for Steelers last night. Read all about it from OFTOT and PSAMP. I am expecting somebody to get me a Mike Wallace jersey for my birthday! Or one of these awesome Penguins ties.

Penguins are winning vs Devils tonight! I am winning that Mario Lemieux jersey tonight! I have donated $100 dollars to the good cause of MLF!

LETS GO PENS!!!

Penguins/Flyers Recap Foley’s Pub Style and Talbot’s Black Cocks Story!

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Great success! Penguins win and Flyers lose both ends of a home and home with Pittsburgh for the first time in 17 years. Yes yes yes we know “Crosby Sucks!” Thanks to MouthFullOfTang for pointing this out and Christina Aguilera for singing it. “Crosby Sucks” chat has the following effect on Sid:

‘Cause it makes me that much stronger
Makes me work a little bit harder
It makes me that much wiser
So thanks for making me a fighter
Made me learn a little bit faster
Made my skin a little bit thicker
Makes me that much smarter
So thanks for making me a fighter

Sid and Tanger win it for the Pens in the shootout. Flyers got ZERO shots on goal in shootout. What a shame! There were 3 Cryers fans present at Foleys. They got a nice “Go Home Flyers” chant and here are their stunned pictures.  To preserve their identity we had to smudge out the picture but nevertheless enjoy this. The guy standing up actually died his hair orange or something … FAIL.

stunned

Thanks to Lisa R. who sent me two autographed Pittsburgh Penguins 2009 SC Champions pictures, they have now found a new home on the wall of Foley’s Pub. Here is a picture of me and the owner of Foley’s Shaun with the two pictures NYC Pittsburgh Penguins meetup has donated.

usbzoso and Shaun owner of Foley's Pub

Here are the pictures upclose hanging on Foley’s wall. The signatures are from Ruslan Fedotenko, Mark Eaton, Pascal Dupuis, Maxime Talbot, Marc-Andre Fleury and Tyler Kennedy!
