As I sit here eating my toast with jam, I cant help but wonder if Evgeni Malkin is in Calgary doing the exact same thing this very minute.
It’s no secret that, recently, Geno has been experiencing his fair share of struggles in regards to scoring goals. It is also no secret that he places the blame entirely on himself.
Some people react to scoring droughts with anger, some react with despair.. others, simply “believe”
The fact that the Pittsburgh Penguins are attracting the largest local television audiences in the NHL, speaks volumes about our incredible fan base. It also validates that, despite the odd slump, people LOVE to watch our boys in action.
So tonight we face off against the Calgary Flames.
Now, I’ve heard a lot of complaints about the next few games being so late in the evening.. Cut us Pacific timers some slack!!.. A game is a game and I’ll take what I can get, but there’s something slightly less satisfying about watching a game at 4pm instead of the 7pm starts I’m used to.. Try not to look at late games as a bad thing. Instead, consider this an opportunity to host a double hockey feature night. You can’t go wrong enjoying two games in one night.
The line combinations for this evening have been altered slightly.
Maxime Talbot is projected to play on the second line tonight, along with Malkin and Fedotenko.
Having always stressed the importance and appreciation of role players, I welcome this combination. Bringing a gritty player onto a top line helps to create space and allows the Geno’s of the game more room to play with the puck, set up and execute plays. But Dan Bylsma says it best.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Tenk with a goal tonight, if not Malkin.. Although, in a season where Mike Rupp is only two goals behind the likes of Malkin and Staal, I think the only thing safe to say is that absolutely NOTHING is safe to say. Meaning that no one can be entirely positive of exactly where our scoring is going to come from on a game to game basis.
Another interesting portion of the game will involve our special teams.
Both teams have had some positive results on the PK while struggling with the success of the PP.
With under an hour left til game time, I’m donning my Malkin jersey and raising a glass in honor of Mike Rupp’s 30th birthday!!!
Yeap, that’s all I have to say… nothing else important happening today……
