Good Bye Igloo
Monday, April 12th, 2010Ello everyone i is back! Had amazing and quite eventful week filled with hockey actions. My first stop of the week was in Pittsburgh for the last game of the season. I’d like to extend a big thanks to Peter V who helped me to get a ticket for this game and Erik H who was my personal tour guide slash chauffeur.
You could feel the city become more and more alive as it got closer to game time. Every time I come here it always amazes me the amount of dedication people have for sports in Pittsburgh. Its like people put their lives on hold, forget their everyday worries and tune in to cheer on their favorite teams. Despite the upbeat sports spirit you could feel some tension of unease surrounding the arena. People probably all over the world came to Pittsburgh on this day to pay their final respect to Igloo. Plenty of folks surrounding the arena reminded us of the fact that this is the last season Penguins skate on this ice. Even Gods must have been sad that day in da Burgh and let the skies cry. However i am keeping my head up because as they say “Every End Is A New Beginning”.
As expected it was a full house. It fact it felt as if the Igloo’s walls became rubber and stretched out just so more people could be here on this day. The opening ceremony started out with this amazing video …
Followed by introduction of some of the old timers … i swear i heard people weep and cry as some of the old player walked the red carpet and crowed went nuts when Mario Lemieux came out. Its was so surreal and stunningly amazing sight.
As expected Scary Gary was still Scary!
One of my top 5 favorite Penguins of all time … Matthew Barnaby got an awesome video dedication … LOVE IT! I tried my best to capture it for you.
After the puck drop it was all business. The arena exploded just seconds into the game when Brooks Orpik scored his second goal of the season. This goal set the tone for the rest of the game. No matter what Islanders did this day there was no way they could win this game. This night belong to us this game belong to Igloo. And so it went down into history 7-3.
Geno didn’t disappoint on this memorable day scored a goal and gave a nice face wash celebration to Tyler Kennedy. My Boy!
While i was in Pittsburgh i took my time to explore the city a little. Of course Primanti Bros was two of my stops. Right next to it i found an awesome store called Smithfield Outlet on Forbes which carried much of officially licensed and unlicensed merchandise. I was able to score some of those world famous on Ice Or Grass We’ll Kick Your Ass t-shirts. Took some pictures which i will forward to psamp.com for their Pittsburgh Sports Unlicensed Merchandise collection.
On top of that I have had the pleasure of meeting some of the kick ass people from Pittsburgh that i only knew from facebook/twitter. Much thanks to everyone who came out to meet me and giving me a warm welcome. In no particular order special thanks go out to …

Pens Swept By Caps
Wednesday, April 7th, 2010I always like to look at the positive side of things and yesterday’s loss to Caps meant that i didn’t have to buy shots for everyone who showed up to watch the game for Pens NYC Meetup group at Foley’s Pub. Woooo hoooo GO PENS!!!
Leo was having the time of his life last night. Ovie has added fifth empty-netter this season to tie MVP in the number of goals. Geno was taking another night off and planning his big comeback in the playoffs.

I am flying out to Pittsburgh tomorrow for a little vacation to join Pens for the last game of the season at the old Civic arena and get them in shape for the playoffs. Just gotta find that playoff switch!

It’s Pens Time To Rock The Red
Tuesday, April 6th, 2010Last chance for the Pens to rock the red on home ice during this regular season! HCDB has every intent to win this game. Last two game could have gone either way with Caps winning in OT and Shootout. In fact ever since the Habs put an end to Capitals winning streak this season which reached 13 wins the Caps haven’t been as dominant. 10 of 20 last games Caps played have gone to either OT or Shootout and Caps lost 9 of those 20 games.
Kunitz is out of the game tonight with lower body injury. Mike Rupp is in. Seems like Crosby will be sharing ice with Dupuis and Fedotenko on the first line. While Geno will enjoy the company of Poni and BillyG.

In today’s Russian language lesson we analyze the ohh-so-popular t-shirt … “Ovechkin – Russian for Douchebag”. While many will agree with this translation ancient scholars still believe there is a deeper meaning embedded into his name.
First off lets see how to write out Ovechkin in Russian – Овечкин. Now to untrained eye, meaning you, this might seem ordinary but to a trained eye, meaning me, it seems to defy ordinary. In fact Овечка in Russian means sheep or lamb. So if Ovechkin is the Sheep and Semin is his Sheppard. It kind of all makes sense now in a really twisted way.

Pens Partying After Win Over Atlanta And Geno Life Of The Party

Following the teams win Saturday afternoon against the Atlanta Thrashers, the team went out on the town Saturday night for Marc Andre Fleury’s girlfriends birthday.
All of the Penguins (except Sidney Crosby), incluidng their wives and girlfriends, spent most of the night in the VIP section at Club Diesel on the South Side.
Word is Evgeni Malkin was having himself a good time and was the life of the party. Club Diesel is a common hang out for a number of players.…* Winger Chris Kunitz did not practice and remains sidelined.
In Kunitz absence, Ruslan Fedotenko and Pascal Dupuis skated with Sidney Crosby on the top line.

The Sharks came over to my Daughter’s school..Ashley was wearing Her Penguin’s winter blue # 87 Jersey!
Dan Boyle Sat By Ashley , and asked Ashely are you from Pittsburgh? She answered no, I’m Born and raised here in San Jose. Boyle asked Ashley “Do you like the Sharks?
She answered , “NO, not really!”
Boyle asked her,”Why do you like the Penguins?”
She said, “They’re my favorite team!”
Boyle , asked her” Do you know any of their names?”
Ashley ,started naming the whole team.
Then he asked ,”Do you know any of The Sharks names?”
She answered”no!”
He asked ,”Do you know the the Captain from the Sharks?’
she said ,no!
Boyle asked her “Does anybody in your family like the Sharks?
She answered, “No,We all love the Penguins!!”
Then they left the 3rd grade room, and Ashley’s friend asked her ,”Do you know who that was?”
Ashley answered,”NO!”
Her Best-friend , told Ashley, “That was the Assistant Captain!!”.. the whole room stared at her!!
