Brooks Orpik New Alternate Captain?

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

With Gonchar now gone to the Ottawa land, looking at the current Penguins roster its clear that new alternate captain hasn’t been officially named yet. If you think about possible candidates that have filled those shoes before two names come to mind right away, Brooks Orpik and Jordan Staal. Out of these two, Brooks Orpik is better fit hands down. Brooks Orpik is tenured veteran with the club, including WBS Pens he has been around  for 10 years now. He has shown time and time again his natural leader skills. Just last season when Pens were struggling its was Brooks Orpik who stepped up and urged the team to play better. Being part of the USA Olymic team is another plus on his resume. I think its safe to assume Bylsma will promote Brooks Orpik to fill the new alternative captain position.

Evgeni Malkin’s Dog named Jeffrey

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

A while back i did a post on Geno’s dog. http://penshead.com/2009/12/07/does-evgeni-malkin-have-a-dog/ I got some quality pics of his dog but unfortunately i couldn’t find its name anywhere. Today i stumbled upon a russian video about Evgeni dated back 13/07/2009. In this video at approximately 4:33 the reporter says,  ”… after press conference Malkin quickly left to get back home where his family was waiting along with his favorite pet Bordeauxdog named Jeffrey.”

Not fully sure on the origins of the name but here is the video … enjoy!

Geno’s Summer Charity

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

While most of us were busy scratching our nut sacs, puking our brains out after last nights party, or developing 3rd degree burns on the beaches this summer, Geno was busy making this world a better place. Most of you must have heard that HCDB visited Geno in Moscow. They got it on and had a great time with bunch of groupies from the Russian Penguin fan club called “Penguin Support Crew”. Basically 7 Russian dudes that needed an excuse to sneak out in the middle of the night and go drinking at the local sports bar. If you haven’t heard well then read article here or see photos here.

Well apparently after Geno left Moscow he went back to his home town Magnitogorsk. Here he got his hands dirty making an Olympic Bear painting for the “Symbols Of Russia” charity auctions. All the money raised goes to support local library. Geno mentioned that he hasn’t held a paintbrush in over 10 years but still managed to come up with the following masterpiece.

Look how proud Geno is of his work!

Evgeni Malkin and his paiting

Some action shots …

Apparently the results of the auction were pretty dissapointing. His paiting auctioned off for 2300 rubles which translated to about $76 dollars. Now this is world famous Stanley Cup Champion we are talking about here. While some local boozed up politician’s painting sold for 7000 rubles at the same auction. Just goes to show that Russian people need to get their priorities straight.

On the next day after action Geno and Oksana visited the same foster home for kids as last year. Last year Geno spent some time going over all the local foster homes. This one was the worst one as it had nothing to offer to kids for playing. So he donated a bunch of toys and build a playground for older kids. This year he came back and build two more  play groups for toddlers. The kids love Geno and refer to him as “big good uncle”. What is there not to love!?

As the wise man once said … “All You Need Is Love”. Pretty sure John said it but this is close enough.

Malkin Crushing Hollywood Boundaries!

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Now its no secret that Max Talbot, The Superstar, has been the prominent figure when it came to trying out his acting skills. He has been in a bunch of commercials and has never been camera shy.  But what about the rest of the Penguins family?! What if i was to tell you that Evgeni Malkin has a role, maybe a small one but still a role in one of the Disney’s movies. Not just any movie but movie starting actor legends like John Travolta, Robin Williams, Seth Green and R.I.P. Bernie Mac. In fact the movie has already been shot back in 2009. The movie is called “Old  Dogs”.

I was watching this movie yesterday when i saw no other than Evgeni Malkin himself side by side right next to Robin Williams! Amazing! Below is screenshot from the movie. Enjoy! :-)
