Pittsburgh Penguins: Love Him or Hate Him; Matt Cooke Can Flat out Play Source: Bleacher Report
Rarely does anybody talk about the positives of a player like Matt Cooke. Since he joined the Pittsburgh Penguins for the 2008-2009 season, Cooke has been suspended multiple times for speculative play. Because of this, his value as a fine two-way hockey player goes overlooked. While I certainly do not advocate for his behavior, Matt Cooke serves a vital role as a member of the Penguins. So far this season, Cooke has scored three goals in his first four games and has been one of, if not the biggest reason, why the Sidney Crosby -less Penguins are off to a hot start. Cooke is a solid situational player, plays on the second or third line, and is a consistent penalty killer. If Cooke were ever available there would be quite a few teams in line to take a flier on him. Brendan Shanahan has been appointed the new sheriff in town for the NHL . He should be applauded for how he has handled headshots and dirty play thus far. Unfortunately for Cooke, this perhaps puts him more under the microscope than he was before (if that’s possible). As a repeat offender, he has little wiggle room with the NHL’s big brass, and if and when he does have another incident, there is no telling as to the length of his penalty. Depending on the severity of the infraction, his removal from the NHL is not out of the realm of possibility … Read this article

Pens pick up another critical point. All you need to know. In a game that was critical to the Blackhawks, the Pens hung on to the bitter end. In the years before the Pens and Hawks started shooting to stardom, we saw the Hawks as a mirror image of the Pens, in terms of building through the draft, plugging holes with some tick turds making plays, and solid defense. The only parts that aren't similar: the egregious Brian Campbell contract and the fact that even some of the Blackhawks players don't know who their goalie is. Can't really find a reason to despise the Hawks. The Marian Hossa hate should've subsided when the Cup was raised in Detroit … Read more

What Is Most Exciting Recent News For The Penguins?

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Due to lack of exciting material out there i am forced to rechew and gnaw on some old bones. So whats the most exciting recent news for our Pens? Its difficult to pinpoint but i am going to try and take a stab at few ideas flying around.

Of course the recent exciting Sidney Crosby hat trick against the NY Rangers on a free hat night? Being that it is an old news it gets only 2 out of 5 stars here. Thanks GhostWalker40 for the videos.
