Hey guys, it’s been a while…

I’d feel remiss if I didn’t mention the fact that Kris Letang is having a hell of a year.  Thankfully, fans are recognizing his accomplishments, and have catapulted him into first place in defenseman voting for the All-Star game with 342,118 votes as of this afternoon.  Now, the All-Star game essentially means absolutely nada in the NHL (much to my chagrin…only thing I like about baseball more is their All-Star game determining home advantage in the finals but I digress) but it would be nice for Kris to participate if only so we get more pictures like this:

and this:

and, even cute things like this:

So, on to the real reason I spent 15 minutes fighting wordpress to log in today…

I finally finished a short documentary on the New York City Pittsburgh Penguins Meetup Group.  usbzoso speaks often for his love of the Meetup group, and now you can all see why for yourselves!

Check it out, and share with fellow Pens fans.

Enjoy!

Sex, Peter, Pittsburgh Penguins, DEVIL, exorcism. part 2

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

Forces of evil were hard at work last night. It all started when i woke up with a bad hangover from night before. There was just a broken train, a cab, a stolen ticket, then Domski, then rain and traffic that stood between us and our mission. I knew today was going to be an especially hard day for all of us, but we live for moments like these. We breath them and we feed on their energy, we chew them up and then we spit them out. Moments like these define who we are and what we stand for. Yes i knew we were going to win this game. I knew this 3 months ago when i was talking to Peter at Foley’s. I told him, “Peter, i understand that you are a Penguins game virgin. However, October 3rd you got a date! You are gonna get some on October 3rd, baby! You are finally getting laid!” Now, i might not know much about getting laid, being on a date, or even hockey. I do have a refined sense of predicting the future thanks to my great grandma who was named Zhenya in honor of the great Geno Malkin. ( *WARNING* if you are wearing a hat take it off before reading the next sentence) Rest in peace grandma i will always love you.

NYC Pittsburgh Penguins Meetup Group … a legend is born!

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

Written by Kristin Valentine

In April 2007, Long Island native and lifelong Penguins fan Mark Hanna – thanks to his father, a Pittsburgher – decided to start a group to connect with other Penguins fans in New York City.  Thus, the NYC Pittsburgh Penguins Meetup Group was born! http://www.meetup.com/penguins/ on www.meetup.com.  Mark held his first meetup during Game 5 of the Ottawa playoff series.  Unfortunately, the Pens lost that game and ended their playoff run but the meetup had managed to bring two lone Penguins fans, in a city full of Rangers fans, together.

That fall Mark scheduled a meetup for the season opener and instead of two there were six fans. Over the next several months the crowd of regulars grew to about twelve. Two or three times a month Pittsburgh Penguins Meetup Group members would gather in a bar near NYU in the Village to watch our beloved Penguins.
