NHL: Why Mario Lemieux’s Letter to Gary Bettman Is Very Important Source: Bleacher Report
Monday was a very busy day in Penguins -land as team captain Sidney Crosby returned to the ice and team owner Mario Lemieux unveiled a letter sent to commissioner Gary Bettman. Lemieux makes the point that suspensions have not stopped dirty players from repeating their actions when they return to the ice (see: Gillies, Trevor), which makes them somewhat ineffective. Lemieux also wants the teams themselves to be liable for their player’s actions (imagine that!) and be fined according to the suspension. … See the article here

Evgeni Malkin Superman

Yesterday was a great day for all Penguins fans! It seemed as though the team finally got that spark, that chemistry of working together as one unit. The things kids did on ice would be censored in some developing countries. And the power play, yes, the power play is like a cherry on top of already delicious-geno-perogi-cake. Hmmm that was a mouthfull, yes, you can say that again! The game was basically won in the first period. And yes Evgeni Malkin has the game winning goal featuring his superman skills that had Gonchar singing, “Kryptonite, yeah!!!” Here it is in all its glory!

Airborn Geno wants to be like Mike!

Evgeni Malkin Superman Goal

Number 71 =  The Way (thanks for @keysandparrots for sending this in)

The Way #71

Malkin scored superman goal before … check out this video of Evgeni Malkin superman goal against Kazakhstan at World Championship.

Before the game began FSN flashed Dupuis mustache. Its finally getting to that proper porn-stache length. Naugthy naughty!

Pascal Dupuis Mustache

Comrie to Letestu top-shelf goal was pretty mind bending. If Letestu happens to hit the waivers this season he will be snatched up like there is no tomorrow. FSN must have showed his post goal bounce off the boards like schfourteen-teen-heif times. If things continue this way for Letestu he will soon have a commemorative mosaic erected somewhere in CEC also. Did we mention he is leading NHL rookie in points? Quick somebody move this guy up to second line!

Mark Letestu Goal Celebration

I am actually really surprised that Andy Sutton didn’t dial in all the way from Anaheim to the Toronto War Room in order to provide his expert opinion on the Crosby’s goal. I mean it was clearly too many men on ice for that goal. Crosby can’t use boards as another player! “Crosby Sucks” chant and boards get one assist. Somewhere Andy Sutton in tears.

All that and this is just first period.  But really no need to review the rest because after this … well … the game was ours!

Somewhere during the first period there is a tribute to Sergei Gonchar. I wasn’t there and FSN cut it out but Seth from EN offers some at unreal insight. Pittsburgh is a pretty classy place.

During a stoppage, a video tribute to Gonchar set to “I Can’t Drive 55″ by Sammy Hagar is presented. Just about everyone in this place offers a standing ovation. The Penguins coaches applaud. The Penguins’ players bang their sticks off the boards in front of the bench in applause. Gonchar stands on the bench and raises his stick. A pretty classy moment.

Yes can’t forget Kris Letang goal. Legame = New Gonchar. Actually better than Gonchar since i don’t recall Sarge shattering sticks when he scored! What a slapshot! There was no video of this on YouTube so i had to make one, check it out in HD! This goal reserved a direct non-stop flight for Brian Elliott directly into the locker room. Why so serious!?

Brent Johnson is like the best goalie in the league right now. Check out his awesome masks if you missed them before. Whole Lotta Glove – The Pensblog = priceless!

Can’t forget to mention Hockey Fights Cancer that took place last night as well at the CEC. Dan Bylsma looking sharp in his Hockey Fights Cancer tie and Tony Granato creeping in.

Lets Go Pens!!!

Pittsburgh Penguins-Ottawa Senators: Penguins Power Their Way Past Senators 5-2 Source: Bleacher Report
The Pittsburgh Penguins (4-3) came out on fire in this Eastern Conference matchup against their playoff rivals, the Ottawa Senators (1-4-1). The much maligned powerplay, which showed signs of life towards the end of the Penguins last game against Philadelphia was on fire in this one. Mark Letestu continued his amazing start to the 2010 season by scoring his fourth goal on a nasty slapshot to score the Penguins first powerplay goal of the evening. Five minutes later, Sidney Crosby scored the second powerplay goal of the night when the puck bounced out from behind the net directly to his stick for an easy tally. … Continue reading here
