More Russians!

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

I’ve been saying it for years, and I’ll say it again, you just cannot have enough Russian in your everyday life.  People without the pleasure of some Russian influence just have no idea what they are missing out on.

Para Pa Pa Pa I am Lovin’ It

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Para Pa Pa Pa I am Lovin’ It … no not McDonalds and not even MacDonald … I am loving hockey! Its actually really funny to think that hockey is by far most superior sport in the world. I mean think about this the NHL has dodged steroids, crooked referees, gambling scandals, domestic abuse and thug life. Lets keep hockey clean and we understand that your dad used to play for Penguins in 1970s but still thats not how you win in hockey … fire MacDonald.

What a great hockey game last night for Pittsburgh Penguins! Even though Evgeni Malkin was not I’m Scor3 yesterday amma still love him while he is rockin’ that Penguins jersey. He did look extremely hungry last night … hopefully someone will feed him tonight. He skated well, entered the offensive zone like a boss and took good shots … just needs to bury one.

MAF had his game of the season last night. He stopped basically everything flamingCs had to offer, 37 saves. Our boys were playing pretty tight D as well. Check out this clusterpuck in front of the Penguins net.

Because of MAF performance last night this puckbunny has changed her mind. If in the beginning of the game she was like …

At the end of the game she was like … actually her name is Kristyne De Mott .. but who cares?!

Sidney Crosby (30), Bill Guerin (15) and Tyler Kennedy (8) all scored for Pittsburgh. Crosby has goals in four straight games and hit the 30 goal plateau in just his 47th game of the season. Crosby is on pace for 51 goals and has never scored more than 39 goals in a season. One word … Trade Crosby! :-)

Godard took a pretty bad penalty but made up for it when he dropped gloves with Brian McGrattan

BillyG with the needed game winning PPG that was deflected from Sergei Gonchar’s slap shot. Speaking of Gonchar and his elbow hit on Clutterbuck has made some people upset. While Gonchar is not expected to face discipline over the hit he did share his side of the story. While we are talking about Sarge its worth mentioning that Ray Shero and J.P. Barry, the agent for Sergei Gonchar held their first set of substantive talks Tuesday afternoon in Calgary. While no official offer was tendered to Gonchar but Pittsburgh is now focused on a three year extension. Gonchar is believed to be seeking deals of 3 years – $15 million and 4 years – $20 million. If a true home-town discount was on the table, a deal would have been struck a while ago. Shero is willing to go as high as $4.25 million per season on a three year extension and are willing to go $5 million per season {Gonchar’s current salary} on a two year deal. Meanwhile, regarding Kris Letang, there has been “absolutely” no movement towards a new deal. [http://insidepittsburghsports.com]

This was one of the most complete and confidence-inspiring games in a while. Lets take the momentum from this game and apply it tonight with the back to back game against Edmonton Oilers.

Some notes …

John Curry has been told he will remain with the team until the end of the Penguins road trip. Brent Johnson who is experiencing some technical difficulties with his groin will not be cleared to suit up until next week at the earliest.

Same goes for the candyman, Brooks Orpik, who is hopeful to practice on Friday but won’t be cleared to play at any point during the rest of the road trip.

Luca Caputi will drop his pants and shake up his booty, might also play on the 4th line tonight but is expected to see time on the top two lines.

There has been talk that Ben Lovejoy is getting a strong look to remain with the team. Only problem is there isn’t enough space on the Penguins roster. Ben has 4 goals and 7 assists with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pens this season so far.

Again puck drops at 9:30pm EST … get some coffee!

Hitting The Road Hard … Fleury Injury Rumors

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Penguins are on the 10 day road trip for the next five games. First stop is in Toronto to face Maple Leafs. While Toronto has been struggling to find their game this season we can’t underestimate them. Last time they visited Pittsburgh the gamed ended with a loss for Pens 4-3. While Toronto has the league’s worst penalty kill unit, we can’t forget that Pens have the worst power play unit. Should be very interesting match up to watch.

Personally, I am very excited for our boys to hit the road and have a little change of scenery, shake off the holiday fat and get back into the game. There are some good news, Gonchar skated this morning with Brooks Orpik and indicated that he expects to play tonight. This is very good news for the Pens since they seem to struggle without Gonchar in the lineup. Ruslan Fedotenko who had some ankle problems was also skating this morning. He is hoping to be cleared to play tonight as well.

Some not so good news, Talbot has indicated recently that he feels some discomfort in his surgically repaired shoulder. He missed practice on Wed to be evaluated by doctors. Rumors had it that he might be sidelined for a week or two.

There also have been some rumors floating around that Fleury is playing though an upper body injury. Another rumor source indicated that Fleury has an upper left arm injury that has been nagging him for weeks. While all these might just be rumors MAF is 1-6 in his last 7 games with a 4.48 GAA and a .870 save percentage. If there is some truth to these rumors I would expect to see more of Brent Johnson in the net this road trip.

Mike Yeo who was recently hospitalized with undisclosed illness in Florida will remain in Pittsburgh over the weekend to be monitored by Penguins doctors.

Some more rumors have been floating around regarding Penguins assistant coach Tony Granato. Its believed that the Columbus Blue Jackets head coach Ken Hitchcock could be let go when the team returns home from their road trip. There is a speculation that Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson has an interest in Tony Granato. Granato who signed a two year contract does include an out clause if he receives head coaching offer.

Evgeni Malkin is scoring tonight!

The Redemption Day Is At Hand! Goodbye Alyonka!

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Quite frankly i didn’t make a post yesterday not because i had nothing to say but rather i didn’t want to delusion you into thinking the Pens were going to win last night. I simply didn’t think they were ready for a big come back just yet. Prior to the game i checked the star and planet alignment that simply did not favor the Pens.  No amount of Crush Orange soda could have saved the Pens. However, worry not my brothers and sisters because i do have some good news. The Redemption Day Is At Hand!

I fell asleep and suddenly found myself surrounded by muddy waters. You know that feeling you get when you wake up in the morning and trying to recollect things you did and said last night? Well if you don’t then i got plenty for both of us but i am not about to share those with you. All of us can learn from our mistakes the trick is not to dwell on it for too long. This is exactly what Pens need to do. They know they haven’t been playing well and maybe lady luck was just not on the right side of the goal post but every nightmare must come to an end. This is where i come in to help you recognize the signs of upcoming salvation.

You know sometimes you just walk out your door gaze at the sky and all the signs are there. When you can no longer ignore them well then just learn embrace them. When Dad stares at you from the Heavens above you know something good is going to happen.

We all know how superstitious Sidney Crosby is and well for quite sometime he was not a happy player. However, last night a miracle occurred! In his frustration Sid ran into the locker room during the game to look for his lucky rabbits foot. To our excitement he finally found it in front of the Flyers net (aka as defenseman Kimmo Timonen’s foot), just in time for the 10 day road trip! There is no stopping him now.

Evgeni Malkin … Geno, Geno, Geno … what are we going to do with you? Well the good news is that Женя doesn’t deny his mistakes and poor performance. First step in helping yourself is admitting you have a problem. He is definitely not in denial! Once again the good news is that Geno’s Holidayitis is supposed to be over today, Jan 8th! Geno has meditated on his recent performance and saw his talent’s true reflection. He is ready to hit the road Jack!

While Sid was busy looking for his lucky rabbits foot … Sergei Gonchar was busy looking for his regular foot. It appears as he finally found it and will be ready for Saturday’s game. It seems like a lot of slumps Pens go through is when Sarge is out with an injury.

Kris Letang was playing like he doesn’t want to get traded. Some big hits and an assist last night from him.

Everything and everyone seem to be in place for the big come back on the road … except well for Alyonka Larionov … we will miss her. However, her decision will likely not affect the Penguins in any way since she doesn’t lace up much.

THE REDEMPTION DAY IS COMING ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 9TH!

Massive Johnson Rubbing One Out!

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

During the game Steiger said Pens have had difficulty getting the first goal in hockey games lately. In fact up util last night they they have only scored the first goal on two of their nine home games. That could have been a problem again if it wasn’t for Sir Massive Johnson who really weathered the storm in the first period. Johnson with 31 saves and a massive assist on Gronk’s second goal.

M-M-M-MASSIVE JOHNSON!!!

FSN flashes some names of the players and number of games without a goal. Brook Orpik leading the list with something like 90+ games. Second on the list is Kris Letang, 20 games without a goal. 39 seconds into second period Tanger got that warm feeling he hasn’t expericed since November 28th, 2009. I guess Tanger really doesn’t want to get traded to Nashville Predators, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues or Edmonton Oilers who are among 4-5 teams to have their eye on Letang. Some league speculation rampant that the Pens would move Letang for the right offer to enhance their chances of signing Sergei Gonchar. Team sources say Pittsburgh’s asking price is higher than the “Ryan Whitney” asking price from last year. For Pittsburgh to even consider moving Letang it’s going to take a young-to-mid 20′s impact winger and a top prospect. [insidepittsburghsports.com] I am going to keep out of trouble today and not comment of Tanger recent performance and what i really think Pens should do with him … because some puck bunnies might come after me with scissors.

Moving on … team Canada was upset twice last night … once when USA got the gold and second time when they saw Staal’s performance. What were they thinking?! Jordan Staal not on team Canada in Vancouver = no gold! Sorry Jordan is just a beast with 3 points last night, 2 goals and 1 assist, and his nose almost looks brand new. A little swelling still makes him look like a Jew!

Fedexpress ended Pittsburgh’s power-play slump. Tenk said … somebody had to do it!

Now to the juicy part of the game … Evgeni Malkin with an ASSIST of the season. I gotta do this right … the next segment of the post is called “How Geno single handedly disarms the whole Atlanta Thrashers team.”

Lets see there are 5 Atlanta Thrashers players on the ice plus a goalie. Lets count together …

1st thrasher… Geno schools him with a poke steal that was directed towards Ruslan and immediately spreads his wings and flies down the ice towards offensive zone.

2nd thrasher … Ruslan reads Geno’s memo and passes puck right back at him. Geno gets a hold of the puck and confronted by Kubina who ends up making snow angels on the ice. Geno in the fast lane.

3rd 4th and 5th thrasher … and Geno enters offensive zone and Pavelec knows he is up to something no good. Enstrom tries to believe in himself but rudely interrupted by Geno who steers the puck between Enstrom’s legs. 2 more thrashers come to Enstorm’s aid thinking they can bully Geno around. Wrong! Geno ties all 3 thrashes as they are all focused on him.

6th … thrasher goalie Pavelec … Geno falling down in front of the net with 3 thrashers on him finds the puck on his backhand. He shoots … Pavelec gives up a sweet rebound and gives up his position … Geno down on the ice still manages to make a quick puck poke to Tenk. Tenk is speechless he hasn’t seen anything like that in a while so he can’t figure out what to do fast enough. Lucky Luca Caputi is right behind him sees a wide open net like a Catholic School Girl … i mean Catholic Church Door spread open on Sunday morning and puts one away. Geno > Whole Thrashers Team. Shades of Mario!

Thanks to GhostWalker40 you can enjoy this over and over and over again.

Huge win for the Pens as they face Flyers on Thursday!

Some more good news … Chris Kunitz Undergoes Successful Surgery

Even more … Sergei Gnochar or Sergei Gonchard was practicing today as he hopes to come back on Thrusday!

Penguins Support Crew – Moscow, Russia

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

In case you didn’t know people in Russia love hockey. In case you didn’t know people in Russia also love NHL. In case you didn’t know there are people in Moscow, Russia that love Pittsburgh Penguins! These fearless warriors call themselves Penguins Support Crew. Some of you might take it for granted to watch NHL games here in America and Canada but once there was a time when NHL was off limits for USSR/Russian TV viewers. Only limited NHL coverage became possible after USSR fall in 1990. Yet the roots of Penguins Support Crew could be traced as far back as 1989. At that time Pittsburgh Penguins beat visiting powerhouse Red Army team 4-2 in an exhibition game. In 1991 after USSR fall a Moscow Newspaper Sports Express at last made it easier to somehow follow Pittsburgh Penguins. This is during the time when Penguins went on to win 2 Stanley Cup titles in a row. Nowadays the internet helped to solidify the group of Penguins fans. There are many fans now that span several cities from the old Soviet Union such as St. Petersburg (Russia), Kiev (Ukraine), and Minsk (Belarus). For those fans that live in Moscow there is a local sports bar where the crew occasionally meets at night to watch Pens play live on a satellite feed. The group now has an internet website http://letsgopens.ru where members can keep in touch and talk about hockey and their favorite team.

In 2006 two members of the crew Evgeni Mihkeyev, 33, and Yaroslav Tretiakov, 27, have made the pilgrimage from their hometown of Moscow for a whirlwind tour that is to include three Penguins games — against the New York Rangers — and one at the home of the club’s top minor-league team. During their visit they were able to meet and talk to Sergei Gonchar and Konstantin Koltsov. [post-gazette.com] [penguins.nhl.com]

Here are also some pictures from when Evgeni Malkin paid a visit to the Penguins Support Crew. Look how happy they are! Priceless!

Geno Is A Good Student And A Greaaaat Teacher

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

If yall was not watching yesterdays game well then yall is a missin’ out on second best game of the season. First one being the 0.4 Papi Scored game. Just simple fact that Vlad Tretiak was in the building could keep one glued to the TV except the interview part where he was talking about Ovie. For that part you could just go to the kitchen and grab some tea. Besides being one of the greatest goaltenders of all time and playing with the Green Unit aka The Original Russian Five (consisted of Vyacheslav Fetisov and Alexei Kasatonov on defense, Sergei Makarov, Igor Larionov and Vladimir Krutov) he is also a GM for the 2010 Russian Winter Olympic team.

Anyway what kind of effect can Vlad have on Russians?

Fedotenko … 1-0
Gonchar … 1-2
Malkin … 3-0

Score Everybody! Come back soon Vladislav Tretiak!

Sergei Gonchar & His Wife Ksenia With Stanley Cup

Sergei Gonchar With Stanley Cup

Sergei Gonchar & His Wife Ksenia With Stanley Cup

The insidepittsburghsports.com reports:

You are probably aware that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman met with general managers and owners on Tuesday December 15th, 2009 at the Board of Governors meetings to talk about projections for next years salary cap in the $56.8 – $58.5 million range. The league does not expect a decrease and early projections show the possibility of even a $1.5 – $2 milllion increase at the max.

This salary cap projections set the stage for Sergei Gonchar contract negotiations. Now that executives with the Penguins have the cap projections for next season, they will move forward in contract talks with defenseman Sergei Gonchar. Penguins general manager Ray Shero and J.P. Barry the agent for Gonchar, will conduct their first set of substantive talks in early January. Pittsburgh’s top priority is to re-sign Gonchar but Pittsburgh will only have a window of 6 weeks to strike a deal as the Penguins have set a deadline that they won’t negotiate with Gonchar after the trade deadline. If the two sides are unable to agree to a deal before the trade deadline, striking a deal after the season before July 1 will be unlikely.

Adopt a Penguin! Who Dat?

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

So you love the Penguins? I do, and not just Pittsburgh Penguins, but cute little fellas you see in your local zoos and aquariums. My favorite type of penguin is the Emperor Penguin. If you haven’t seen The March Of The Penguins movie then your life is incomplete. If you have seen it then you might remember that Emperor Penguins are monogamous. Precisely for that reason they are my favorite. Emperor Penguins are monogamous, though not in the way that humans consider monogamy. They have only one mate each year, and keep faithfully to that one other penguin, but each year, they choose different mates. What?! Thats good enough for Animal Kingdom! Anyway, go see the movie if you haven’t and if you have go see it again.
