Two week blur of Hockey and Beer.

It seems like forever since the Olympics began just two weeks ago, and yet the experience has flown by at the same time.
Tensions have been high between pens fans lately as our countries battled it out against one another and many are glad it’s over. But, with a disappointing finish for Russia, I think it’s safe to say that there will be some pressure from NHL players on Bettman to allow them to compete again in 2014.

Thursday, February 18th, 2010Olympic men’s hockey is underway and so far the games have more or less turned out as expected. Maybe we thought Usa would have had a bigger lead, maybe we thought Canada wouldn’t have been held scoreless for the entire first period, maybe we thought Russia would post a shutout. At the end of the day we are left with the results of Usa, Canada and Russia posting their first W’s. Today’s victories went to Sweden (2-0 over Germany), Finland (5-1 over Belarus) and the Czech Republic (3-1 over Slovakia).
So far Crosby is on the top of the Guins Olympic points scoreboard with 3 ass. Geno is right behind him, recording 1 goal and 1 ass.
We are definitely being spoiled with all this hockey!!
This Is For All The Ladies. (Exclusive Interview)
Wednesday, February 10th, 2010This is a tribute to the women of hockey. The ones who shaped the sport, the ones who adore the sport and the ones who live the sport.
The sports industry is, in many ways, a patriarchal and patrilineal system. Reflect on your own introduction to hockey. Most of us have that “tomboy” quality to us. I remember being 4 years old and wanting a back hoe digger for Christmas.. We relate to our Fathers, Grandfathers, Uncles and Brothers. Whether you spent your time watching your dad play at the rink or used to sit down with your grandpa for the Saturday afternoon game, the vast majority of women identify their love of hockey through the predominant male figures in their lives.
Along the way we seem to have lost some sense of identity as being women of the sport.
It’s time to take back what hockey means to us as females and recognise some of the kick ass chicks in this epic game.
We need to be empowered female fans and hockey players. To celebrate our worth and important contributions to the hockey community. To reject stereotypes, break down constraining typecasts and flaunt our love for the greatest game in the world. To allow ourselves to feel proud and comfortable in our own oestrogen laden skin.
Penguins Bipolar Disorder
Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010Games like tonight cause psychological disorders. After a bipolar game of hits and misses, from trailing by 2, to leading by 2, to finding ourselves clinging to a 1 goal lead on the PK with 2 minutes left of the game, the Pens came out on top with a final score of 5-4.
Letestu scored his first NHL goal early in the 1st to give the Pens the 1-0 lead. Buffalo answered back with 2 quick goals and returned in the 2nd to score yet again and take the 3-1 lead.
Pittsburgh wasn’t ready to throw in the towel. Crosby responded minutes later on the PP, followed by a long anticipated goal by Jordan Staal which tied the score at 3. After an extended period of 4 on 4 hockey Bing decided to show off by racking up two more goals within the period for his 5th career hatty. Crosby is now tied with Marleau for the NHL lead in goals.
God that guy sucks.

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010Pens played Vancouver Canucks on Saturday and Geno was able to end his 11 game goalless streak. He owes it all to shutyour5hole who was in the crowd with the “Big Taste” sign.

It’s no secret that, recently, Geno has been experiencing his fair share of struggles in regards to scoring goals. It is also no secret that he places the blame entirely on himself.
Some people react to scoring droughts with anger, some react with despair.. others, simply “believe”
